Question 3. What have you learned from your audience feeback?

My audience feedback wasn't as helpful as I had hoped. Although, I did learn from this and learnt a lot about how to receive audience feedback effectively.

I set up a questionnaire for my audience via Facebook, as a mass amount of my audience use Facebook. However using Facebook as a feedback source was biased as it was only from my friends. Also Facebook made the audience feedback more relaxed and informal which made the audience not reply seriously. Uploading the two ancillary tasks as a jpeg file on Facebook allowed my audience to use the 'like' button on Facebook which didn't really explain how my audience felt about the ancillary tasks, however did allow them to make a quick decision so more people were able to 'like' the ancillary tasks.

I learnt that to receive effective feedback I should have interviewed a group of my target audience, where I could have got more formal and descriptive feedback.

Question 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

FILM MAGAZINE COVER

• My magazine is a new developed magazine.
• Available free weekly in The Guardian (British national daily newspaper).
• Idea from News of The World (British national weekly tabloid newspaper) – weekly have a free lifestyle magazine ‘Fabulous’.
• High production values – articles with new and upcoming film directors.
• High production values – use high quality glossy paper.
• High production values – available online on own separate website ‘ww.flick.com’ website – available worldwide.
• ‘Meet the cast of Maya and Me’ - creates intrigue.
• Featuring the film on the cover of the magazine, helps people talk about the film (word-of-mouth), this is the most effective way to sell products.
• The film may be featured on other film magazines worldwide, because of its high production values.


FILM POSTER

• Film Poster will be on billboards all over Britain and America – high production values.
• Film poster will inform people of the forthcoming film.
• The films website is also on the poster, so audience can view more details about film.
• High production values – Warner Bros. and Film Four producers of Due Date and Slumdog Millionaire – cinema tickets of film on poster.
• Used idea of scrapbook on film poster to show the delightful and laidback genre of the film.


FILM TEASER TRAILER

• Music – doesn’t have one tone, flow of music is well used – high production values.
• Location used – in school – doesn’t prove high production values – limited access to locations.
• Location used – at home – doesn’t prove high production values – limited access to locations.
• Teaser Trailer shows all moods of film to inform the audience what to expect from the film.


ALL TEXTS

Typographysame title used in all texts.
• Used films website on Film Poster and Film Teaser Trailer, so audience can view more details about film.
• Same release date given in Film Teaser Trailer and Film Poster.
• Billing block used in Film Poster and Film Teaser Trailer.
• All the products together will help promote my film.
• The genre of the film is clear in all three texts as we can see the main actors are teenagers, so the audience are aware it’s a teen film, however the teaser trailer shows how it is more serious than a conventional teen film.
• The tagline is not used effectively through all the texts, so the tagline doesn’t create familiarity though the title does.
• My Film Poster, Film Magazine Cover and Teaser Trailer, will be available world wide, a collaboration of British and American producers.
• Word of mouth about film will spread through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

FILM TEASER TRAILER

Followed formal conventions of a teaser trailer
• Rating card used at head of trailer
• Title slates hinting on narrative
• Shots of different events in movie in chronological order
• Release date and title of movie exposed at end
• Music used on beat of title slates, similar to The Social Network
• Used close ups to introduce main characters
• Different locations of film
• No continuity

Challenged formal conventions of a teaser trailer
• Build up of fast editing wasn't used, in tone of movies genre and narrative
• No voice over or dialogue used, because of limited access to resources
• No change of music - one soundtrack used that develops tone

Followed generic conventions of a teen family drama teaser trailer
• Shots of different emotions throughout film
• Slow paced music and shots used throughout
• Showing teenagers in school and doing makeup
• No negative representation of teenagers

• Used more than one picture of main actor to show the importance of their role and the idea of the scrapbook - scrapbook design similar to Terms Of Endearment

• Masthead on top of page
• Well developed magazine masthead is used in background to main image however my product will be newly published so only some letters are in background
• Tagline of magazine

• Actors in character role, looking into camera, at audience
• 3-4 font styles and colours used looks professional

Challenged formal conventions of a Film Magazine
• Price and barcode not used as it will be a free magazine for The Guardian newspaper readers, as my audience wouldn't pay for a film magazine
• More than one person in frame, showing importance of both characters
• Mostly middle aged male audience for film magazines-Main cover line is conventionally of male interest however mine is of young female interest
• Using the 'K' in 'FLICK' slightly slanted to intrigue the 'fun' readers of the magazine

Photoshop - Film Poster - Finishing Touches

Today I added my finishing touches to my film poster. I added a tag line as I needed one to fulfil the convention of a film poster. I moved the position of the actor names further away from each other to fit in the tagline in between and removed a photo I had, as it wasn’t necessary.

Photoshop - Film Poster

I spent the week completing finishing touches on my film magazine cover. The magazine cover wasn’t time consuming as my film poster as it had more tasks and images to consider. So I was able to complete my film magazine cover and spend time on my other products. My mock-up was helpful, though I did alternate my design to make the product look more professional.

Music upload

Using a media converter website, I was able to convert YouTube videos to an mp3 file. I found my YouTube audio clips that I wanted to convert and then used the website to do so. After doing this I could transfer the file to iTunes which allowed me to use the mp3 file on iMovie, this was successfully done. I was then able to crop the soundtracks and adjust the volume and length of it. This was helpful as I only needed parts of each soundtrack.

Upload and Editing

I imported the footage I filmed yesterday onto iMovie and started editing straight away as I had become adapted to the software. However I did not like the last shot I took of the whiteboard with the GCSE details on it. As a result I had to re-shoot this shot, the shot wasn't time consuming, I had to make the shot perfect. The shot was accomplished and I imported the footage and edited it in to my film teaser trailer.

Filming (school shots)

Today I filmed with my two main actors and with half a dozen young girls in uniform. The mise-en-scene had to be appropriate to be recognisable as a school environment. The two main actors had to have a costume of the school uniform to be associated with the rest of the actors. I also filmed in the school building (the main hall) with props of a table and chairs for the main actors to use to disguise a GCSE exam taking place. I also filmed a shot of a white board with the timings of the exam; however this shot didn’t go as planned as it looked amateur so will need to be filmed again.

Starting Film Magazine Cover

As I used my own digital camera I had to transfer files from my compact flash card to the school computers. With the help of my mock-up, I was able to work straight into my work after the images were transferred.

This was the best image that I could work with due to lighting and poses:



However I will crop this image to work well into my product.

Photoshop - YouTube

As a beginner on using Photoshop I couldn't use the software to my advantage as much as I could. Which then led me to a decision to watch tutorials on YouTube on how to use Photoshop. I looked up for different techniques I wanted to use and followed them accordingly. The tutorials were very helpful and made using Photoshop a lot easier. PRS For Music

After waiting for a reply from PRS (Performing Right Society) for Music for over seven weeks now, I have been told I could use the music of my choice for educational purposes.
